Pardhan Matri Awas Yojna

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) 2023 is a flagship housing scheme launched by the Government of India in 2015 with the aim of providing affordable housing to all urban and rural citizens by the year 2022. The scheme has two main components:

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Urban (PMAY-U): This component targets the urban population and aims to provide affordable housing options to individuals and families in urban areas. The scheme offers financial assistance to eligible beneficiaries to either construct a new house, enhance existing houses, or purchase a new house.

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Gramin (PMAY-G): This component focuses on the rural population and aims to provide financial assistance for the construction of pucca houses (permanent houses) to eligible rural households. The goal is to improve the living conditions of people residing in rural areas.

To avail the benefits of the PMAY scheme, applicants need to meet certain eligibility criteria set by the government, including income limits, family size, and property ownership status. The scheme offers different subsidy rates and assistance amounts based on the category of beneficiaries.

The main objective of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana 2023 was that by the year 2023, every family living below the poverty line should have their own home, so that they do not have to live in rented housing. This goal has been almost achieved by now. It should be noted that during the tenure of Prime Minister Modi, several welfare-oriented schemes like the PM Kisan Yojana, eShram Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Maan-Dhan Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), Jan Samarth Yojana, Atal Pension Yojana (APY), Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana, and so on, have been initiated.
